The physician behind RoundCompanion

Built on rounds,
by someone
who rounds.

RoundCompanion was built by Dr. Vikram Samala, a physician who has spent his career doing exactly the work this app supports.

The work behind the app

A career spent rounding.

Dr. Samala brings more than seven years of combined experience as a hospitalist and a medical director for multiple nursing homes.

As a hospitalist, he carried daily censuses of fifteen to twenty patients — pre-charting before sunrise, rounding room to room, and finishing notes long after rounds ended.

He has also rounded extensively in skilled nursing facilities, where visits can be weeks apart and the chart tells a longer, slower story — a different rhythm of medicine with the same memory burden.

He is currently a cardiology fellow, still seeing patients, still writing notes.

Why RoundCompanion began

Two memory challenges.
One familiar morning.

RoundCompanion began as a tool he built for his own mornings. Every hospitalist knows the two memory challenges of rounding: remembering what you pre-charted when you’re standing outside each patient’s door, and remembering what happened in every room when you sit down to finish your notes and tasks.

Every physician develops a personal system for coping with them — the folded paper list, reopening the EMR between rooms, writing notes three patients at a time.

Dr. Samala wanted a tool that helped with both challenges throughout rounds. So he built RoundCompanion.

The development standard

Every detail has to earn its place.

Before it was a product, RoundCompanion was tested on hundreds of fictional patient encounters, graded line by line against one standard:

Nothing invented.
Nothing lost.

That discipline continues today with a dedicated engineering and machine-learning team.

A physician on the other end

He reads every early-access request himself.

Dr. Samala built RoundCompanion under Venkata Technologies LLC.
